At Free Range Paws, we are dedicated to eliminating dog tethering in communities in need by providing education, resources, and advocacy.
the motivation behind free range paws
Free Range Paws was founded out of a deep concern for the animals in Stanly County, Anson County, and Montgomery County. Our team noticed an alarming number of dogs living tethered outside, often in poor conditions, and we knew something had to be done. We began researching the legality of tethering in these areas and the harsh realities these animals faced. What we discovered was troubling: there were no anti-tethering laws in place, leaving many dogs vulnerable to neglect and suffering.
But this issue wasn’t just about laws—it was also about a lack of education and resources for pet owners. Many families simply didn’t have the knowledge or tools to provide proper care for their pets. The reality is that financial struggles, lack of space, or other challenges can make it difficult for people to bring their dogs indoors or invest in proper fencing. Yet, every dog deserves the right to feel safe, secure, and cared for.
That’s why we created Free Range Paws—to bridge the gap. We provide free to low-cost fencing solutions, community education on humane pet care, and resources to help pet owners give their animals the best life possible. In addition, we advocate for stronger local animal welfare laws, such as anti-tethering ordinances, to protect all pets in our community.
We understand that life can be complicated, and priorities often shift when caring for an animal. But we also believe that no dog should ever have to suffer due to lack of education or resources. By supporting pet owners with the tools they need, we aim to ease the burden of pet care, reduce shelter overpopulation, and ensure that all animals have access to the basic necessities: food, water, shelter, and the freedom to move safely within their homes.
At Free Range Paws, we’re more than just an organization—we’re a community of caring individuals committed to making sure every dog has the life they deserve.
